NEW DELHI: Neeraj ChopraCoach Jaiveer Chaudhary’s name does not feature in the final list of Indian athletes for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, as the team received administrative and financial clearance from the Sports Ministry, TOI has learnt. The withdrawal means Chopra can compete without her coach at the Games, which are scheduled to run from July 23-Aug 2. If Chaudhary travels, he will do so individually at Chopra’s expense and stay outside the group’s designated hotel.Chopra reunited with Chaudhary, her childhood teacher, in Jan 2026 after she ended her relationship with international historian Jan Zelezny. Chopra’s physiotherapist Ishaan Marwaha has been included in the government-approved group. The 42-member athletics team consists of 32 athletes, eight coaches and assistants, and two Extra Team Officials (ETOs). Chopra was initially unsure about the Games due to anxiety. Not left out of the official list is coach and jumper M Sreeshankar’s father, S Murali, who was the world’s leading triple jumper who held national records throughout his career. If he goes to Glasgow, Murali will do it himself at his own expense. On the subject of boxing, the ministry dropped Jadumani Singh from the men’s 55kg category after he asked the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) to inform him about his selection for the CWG and Asian Games.Jadumani, who won the selection test in Patiala, will now travel with the team. Meanwhile, 70kg boxer Sumit Kundu is waiting for a visa for his coach Ved Prakash with the help of the UK High Commission. The ministry approved a 191-member team comprising 126 athletes (78 men and 48 women), 56 team officials/assistants/managers and nine ETOs, including 14 IOA staff led by chef-de-mission Rohit Rajpal. The nine ETOs will be based out of the selected hotels, and their accommodation expenses will be borne by the IOA. The ministry also clarified that it will not bear the expenses of the elected members of the executive committee of the IOA.
