Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja has questioned the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to drop Shan Masood as Test captain ahead of the upcoming tours of the West Indies and England. The PCB has brought back Babar Azam to lead the Tests, but Raja believes Shan was blamed for the team’s poor performance.Speaking on his YouTube channel, Raja said Shan is expected to deliver results despite not having a strong team. “You give him an ordinary Test team and then you expect them to produce good results,” said Ramiz. He added that if he were in Shan’s position, he would have opposed the commission’s proposal. “If I were in Shan’s position, I would write a protest to the board that if the captain is always given a team of ordinary players then how can you expect good results?” Raja said.He also defended Shan by asking why only the captain should be blamed. “If the level of the Test team is not good, how is the captain responsible for this,” he added.Shan Masood has led Pakistan in 16 Tests since December 2023, but the team has lost 12 of those matches. Chief selector Aqib Javed recently blamed Shan’s leadership for poor results, a sentiment that Raja disagreed with, saying that a captain can only do as well as the players he has.Pakistan has now reinstated Babar Azam as Test captain. The team will travel to the West Indies on July 13 for two Tests before traveling to England for three more Tests in August and September.
