Shreyas Iyer‘luck at the toss continues to shine even as he waits for a maiden victory as India’s all-time T20I captain continues. The 31-year-old won his fifth consecutive T20Is after opting to face England in the third T20I at Trent Bridge on Tuesday. In doing so, Iyer joined the elite list of Indian captains to win five consecutive tosses in the shortest format.MS Dhoni still holds the record with seven consecutive wins between May 2010 and February 2012, when Virat Kohli he won six in a row in 2019. Rohit won five in a row between February 2020 and February 2022, and Mark Iyer has now matched it.The most successful innings by an Indian captain in T20Is
- MS Dhoni – 7 (May 2010-February 2012)
- Virat Kohli – 6 (August 2019-December 2019)
Rohit Sharma 5 (February 2020-February 2022)- MS Dhoni – 5 (September 2007)
- Shreyas Iyer – 5 (June 2026-July 2026)*
However, the bowling success did little to change India’s fortunes on the field.Since becoming India’s full-time T20I captain after the 2026 T20 World Cup, Iyer has yet to register his maiden win. India suffered back-to-back defeats against Ireland before the opening T20I series against England ended. They then lost the second T20I in Manchester, leaving Iyer winless in his first four matches as captain in the Trent Bridge clash.
