Brendon McCullum has apologized to the fans of the England team after he was sacked as the coach of the Test team, he has admitted that the team did not give the results he expected under his leadership. The former New Zealand captain will continue as England’s white-ball coach but has been axed from the Test side until 2022. Speaking in Edgbaston on Monday, ahead of England’s ODI series against India, McCullum accepted the decision and said it was time for a new word.

The England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Sunday that McCullum will no longer be England’s Test coach. McCullum made it clear that the decision came from the board.“Yes, I have a tap on my shoulder,” he said.“I was disappointed but at the same time I really respect the decision. We are in the business of results and the results were not good enough. It’s time for someone to go. “McCullum finished with a Test coaching record of 27 wins, two draws and 20 losses.
‘I’m just saying I’m sorry’
McCullum admitted that England’s failure to win this major series was a huge disappointment in his leadership and took full responsibility.“We couldn’t really win that big series, against India and Australia. For reasons I think I’m sorry for,” he said.He also agreed to be accountable for the group’s culture and behavior.“I was the leader of the team. I was managing the team culturally, managing the team tactically, managing the results of the team as well.“I’ve been around the game for 20-odd years and I know if you don’t get the results you need a chance. I put my hand on it and admit it wasn’t enough.”

McCullum said there is something to be said for leaving the Test setup after Ben Stokes’ retirement.Speaking to the BBC, he revealed that the former England captain reached out to him after the incident.“I have good news from Stokesy,” he said. “I think, in a romantic way, there’s something about Stokesy and I going together. We started together and we go out together, and I have no problem with that.”McCullum and captain Ben Stokes changed England’s approach to Test Cricket with their aggressive style, popularly known as ‘Bazball’. England won 10 of McCullum’s first 11 Tests and was praised for his fearless cricket.However, his results carried over into the latter stages of his presidency. England have lost seven of their last nine Tests, including a 2-1 defeat at home to New Zealand last month, which also signaled Stokes’ retirement from Test cricket.England also failed to win one of their biggest tournaments during McCullum’s tenure. They drew India 2-2 with Australia and lost both matches away from home.
