India opened their medal account at the Archery World Cup Stage 4 with silver after the women’s team lost 228-232 to Colombia in the final on Saturday. The Indian trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi struggled to keep pace, while Colombia made a couple of runs to take the title.India, ranked 3rd in the event and winners of the World Cup Stage 1 in Mexico, could not match Colombia’s accuracy in the title race. Youngster Prithika Pradeep was the best for India, scoring a superb 10, including two flawless overs. However, experienced archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam had an off day, managing just three 10s from her eight arrows, which spoiled India’s chances.Colombia’s Alejandra Usquiano proved to be the difference, hitting 10 straight to lead her team to victory. Former international Sara Lopez did not fare well, but Usquiano’s consistency kept Colombia in control throughout the period.India still have a chance to add to their medal tally later in the tournament. Prithika has reached the women’s semifinal and won one to claim another medal. The recurve team is still in contention. Youngster Kirti Sharma, who made her World Cup debut last month in Antalya, is through to the women’s singles semifinal and will be paired with India No.
