Joe Root etched his name into England’s history books by becoming the first batsman in the country to register six consecutive fifty-plus scores in One-Day Internationals in the third ODI qualifier against India at Lord’s on Sunday. The former England skipper continued his unbeaten 74 off just 49 balls, adding to his tally which now reads 61, 75, 111 not out, 76 not out, 99 not out and 74. Root’s latest knock came as England piled up a challenging 387 for 3 after being asked to bat first in the final three-match series. The innings also marked Root’s third consecutive half-century in the series, having remained unbeaten with 76 and 99 in the opening two matches. His latest effort saw him become the first England batsman to record six consecutive ODI innings of 50 or more. England’s top score was set in an opening partnership of 192 between them Ben Duckett and Jacob in Bethel. Duckett led the way with a superb 141, while Bethell delivered a brilliant 91 as the pair decimated the inexperienced Indian attack. India missed out a lot Jasprit Bumrahwho was ruled out due to swelling in his left knee after the injury sustained during the second ODI. Without a fast bowler, the visitors struggled to find England’s batsmen, with the four pacers conceding runs every now and then. After Duckett and Bethell laid the groundwork, Root ensured that England continued to march. Running to the finish line, he beat another he had written fifty years earlier Jos Buttler he added an unbeaten 41 in just 13 matches to push England closer to the 400-run mark. Root’s latest performance also showcased his unique form as England cemented their place in the tournament with another strong batting display.
