Mollywood actors Revathy Asha Kelunni and: Padmapriya Janakiraman resigned from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). The two actors announced their resignation through a joint statement shared on Instagram on Monday.The actors said they remain hopeful that the organization will introduce meaningful reforms. However, after waiting for the renewal, they decided to end their prime membership.

A joint statement explained the decision

In their statement, Revathy and Padmapriya said they always seek a professional environment built on fairness, safety and accountability.Their statement read, “Today, we resign our primary membership of AMMA Not in anger, not in haste. Between us we’ve given decades to this industry, and we care about where it’s next. For many years the question was simple. safety, dignity, accountability and fair treatment. What we met instead was silence, and the slow realization that this institution, as it stands, is not ready to change.They further wrote, “Malayalam cinema will always be ours to love and to work for. The announcement quickly gained attention on social media. One user wrote, “@revathyasha respect yourself no matter what!! Our support and love for you and the tribe will only go up!! AMMA continues to face organizational turmoil

The resignations come at a time of major developments within AMMA. The organization recently witnessed the resignation of its 17-member executive committee, headed by an actor Shwetha Menon. The decision followed a no-confidence motion and several discussions held during the association’s annual general body meeting in Kochi.After the resignation of the executive committee, the general body of AMMA appointed an ad-hoc committee to oversee the activities of the organization. The interim panel is headed by Ramesh Pisharody.
