Egypt defender Yasser Ibrahim gave the Pharaohs a dream start against Argentina in their FIFA World Cup Round of 16 clash, heading home in the 15th minute to put the African side 1-0 ahead against the defending champions.The 33-year-old defender rose to meet the ball inside the penalty area, which allowed Argentine striker Emiliano Martinez to score his second international goal.Born in Mansoura on February 10, 1993, Ibrahim spent his entire career in Egypt. After starting with Mansoura SC, he moved to Zamalek in 2013 before going on loan and switching to Smouha. Since joining Al Ahly in January 2019, he has established himself as one of the most reliable players in Egypt.At club level, Ibrahim has played over 225 games for Al Ahly, scoring 15 goals in all competitions. During his time with the Cairo giants, he won five Egyptian Premier League titles, four CAF Champions League trophies, four Egyptian Cups and five Egyptian Super Cups, building his reputation as one of the best defenders in the country.Ibrahim made his debut for Egypt in March 2022 and has now won 23 international caps. His goal against Argentina was the second for the national team, but it did not reach the big level.The experienced defender has been key to Egypt’s run at the 2026 World Cup, starting four of the team’s five games ahead of the tournament. His greatest goal against Argentina also marked his first goal of the tournament.Although not known for his attacking style, Ibrahim has built his career on solid defence, aerial control and leadership.
