Back in 2024, Arshad Warsi found himself at the center of a huge row on social media after commenting on: Prabhas:‘ look at ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, which led to a wave of trolling from fans of the Telugu superstar. For context, Arshad said that Prabhas resembles a ‘joker’ in Ashwin film and suggested that he should be styled like Mel Gibson instead. Nani later reacted by saying that the comment probably got Arshad the “most publicity” of his career, a comment which in turn drew criticism from a section of the Hindi film audience.
Arshad Warsi to joke only with close friends
Now, in a conversation with News18, Arshad shared that he keeps his unfiltered side reserved for his close friends, behind closed doors. “I just joke with my friends. To be honest, I don’t joke with anyone else. If I have to crack a joke, I do it with the people I’m familiar with and those who are my friends because I know what to say and how much I can say. If I don’t know someone, I don’t say anything in front of them because I have no idea about them. It’s as simple as that,” he said.

But Arshad also said that in today’s world, where social media monitors everything, people should learn to laugh at jokes. “As humans, we all need to lighten up,” he said. He feels the same is true for films. He recalls the ‘hakka noodle’ joke from Munna Bhai MBBS and says that while it may be trolled now, it was not really ‘offensive’. Nothing hurts it. People can dissect it now, but it doesn’t hurt. We do call boys ‘baal ki dukaan’ and that’s not offensive also,” he stated. For those who don’t know, in ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, Arshad’s character Circuit meets a Chinese tourist and jokingly calls him ‘hakka noodle’. At the same time, Arshad says that he strongly believes in ‘self-censorship’. “You have to practice it. I, personally, am not a big fan of Pakistani humor, just because it is offensive. Pakistani humor is often quite insulting – calling names and such. A lot of people like it, but I personally don’t. I’m also not a big fan of sexual comedies and that’s my choice. People love it. Everyone has their choice, but that is the censorship I practice,” he said.

Earlier, in a conversation with the same publication after facing trolling for his comments on Prabhas, Arshad said, “Having an opinion is good but these are faceless people. They hide and pass the comments because they have nothing better to do. It gives them a little self-importance that I abused the actor. Anything can be inappropriate. You and I can have a normal conversation over a cup of tea and someone gets angry about the cup. I don’t know what to do with this!”
